I had been to Costa Rica and fell in love with it. Many people are not just looking for the best deal on a place to live. Some people just want to live somewhere they fall in love with or really like. I came to Grecia, the people were friendly, it was close to the airport and SJ yet it was far enough away to be a safe and clean small town. So that was my criteria to move. Some people are overly paranoid about safety. I can't believe a landlord would tell a person that they can't leave your house because it might get broken into or squatted on. Squatters typically move into houses that are abandoned and left for 1yr plus. Not for a two week vacation. Insurance companies in North America require you to have someone watching over your place when you are away or your insurance is invalid. Crime happens everywhere. A person must use common sense but not become a prisoner in their own home. Costa Rica is as safe and in most cases safer than any other central american country. Grecia has many nice expats that are very knowledgable on life here, the area and on healthcare etc. As for being wrong, it depends on personal choice and what a person wants out of life. CR has lots of nice beaches, Panama doesn't. Panama has the canal. We use the Colone not the USD and some say it is like living in the USA.
